The world’s largest warship at the time, it instead departs for a peace summit with Francis I of France. Though the meeting—later known as the Field of the Cloth of Gold—had little long-term success, its lavish displays were immortalized in a pair of paintings for Whitehall Palace and re-created by many artists throughout the centuries.
