Description
Unique System | Fantasy | Core Book
Baron Munchausen's tales of his extraordinary adventures are legendary: riding cannonballs through the sky, sailing to the Moon, meeting gods, escaping from the Turkish army on half a horse, and many more.
Can you outdo the Baron's storytelling? You can try!
Challenge your friends to tell the most extraordinary stories, interrupt to challenge or correct their boasts, and describe your own amazing exploits in this renowned game of wit, riposte and repartee, written in high style by the Baron himself. The role-playing system replaces dice and pencils with money and fine wines, and requires no previous experience with RPGs.
A modern classic, The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen was the first of the New Style games that ushered in the story-games revolution of the early 2000s. It requires no GM or preparation, plays in under an hour, and has over 200 ready-to-play adventures in the book. It's also really, really funny.
This third edition was originally published by Fantasy Flight in 2016. The content has been greatly expanded from the first and second editions. Contained beneath the sumptuous cover is the original game, along with Arabian-style rules from Sindbad the Sailor, a simpler version for younger (or inebriated) players, and rules for playing online. One of the Baron's own descendants has also contributed twelve new variants and different styles of play, including Gutenberg's Revenge, The Recall of Cthulhu, and Munchausen Crescent. Its pages are graced with glorious paintings from the hand of Omar 'Once Upon a Time' Rayyan.
"One of the most insanely fun roleplaying experiences I have ever had" — Wil Wheaton
"Utter brilliance in RPG form!" — John Kovalic, creator of Dork Tower
"Perhaps the finest game writing I have ever encountered. I delight in its every word" — Bill Coffin
"This game is a modern classic" — Tim Harford, the Undercover Economist
“Really, really, really funny” — Shut Up & Sit Down
Nominated for Best New RPG and Best Family/Party Game in the Origins Awards
Nominated for Best Writing in the ENnie Awards
Acclaimed as one of the 'Millennium's Best Games' by Pyramid magazine
